Members of BIV and the Broadway community will soon be sleeping on the New York City street.
Covenant House, which raises awareness and provides support for nearly 2 million homeless youth in America, holds its annual “Broadway Sleep Out” on August 15th. After visiting with kids who are rebuilding their lives at Covenant House, Team BIV and numerous Broadway luminaries will spend the night outside on cardboard boxes. The event raises money for Covenant House's rehabilitation programs, but is so much more than a fundraiser.
“The Sleep Out is something that changed my life two years ago,” Co-Team Captain Angela Grovey said. “I will forever be changed because of the heroic people I have come in contact with at the Covenant House. Giving up one night a year is NOTHING when I think about the young people we impact.”
Fellow Co-Team Captain Antoine L. Smith is taking to the streets for the fourth time. “I do the Sleep Out because even as an adult I couldn't imagine not having a safe, secure place to lay my head and worries down every night. So to see the strength of these young people, I learn that life is never as hard it may seem...I think it's important because it shows these young adults and children that there are people still rooting for them to succeed.”
Six members of BIV will be sleeping out on the 15th, and even more who are unable to be at the event are raising money. If you would like to donate to the cause, please visit our Team Page. Every dollar raised helps provide food, shelter and support for homeless youth. For more information, visit www.covenanthouse.org
